We are in the process of preparing to open the park to vehicles in early July pending state budget confirmation.  Stay tuned.

Please use caution when using trails at Border Field, for the next 18 weeks DHS will be doing construction in the area of Bunker Hill which will also affect the Goat Canyon area. Watch for traffic. Entrance gate remains closed.

Gates remain closed to vehicle traffic.  With recent rains, trails are muddy and NOT recommended for use by hikers/pedestrains.

Yogurt Canyon – Flooding leads to massive potholes on Monument Road.

10/6/2011

Gates are closed to vehicle traffic again due to flooding from the recent rain event.  Depending on future weather, it is likely the gate will remain closed through the winter.

9/1/2011

GOOD NEWS… Gates will reopen to vehicle traffic on Saturdays and Sundays starting this weekend.  Road has been temporarily patched but Monument Mesa is still under construction.

Construction on the new picnic facilities atop Monument Mesa remains frozen at about 70% complete. However, a hearing was held to break the contractual impasse that led to the contractor being back on site this week.  A new construction schedule is pending.

7/18/2011

Vehicle access to Border Field will likely remain closed for the rest of the year due to the state’s current budget crisis.  The park is still accessible to pedestrians and equestrians.

The rain this week has reflooded the road. We are still moving forward to fix the road problems as soon as the puddles dry up.  We hope to open the gate to vehicles by July 4th weekend.

Please stay out of flooded areas as they are likely contaminated.

5/10/2011

The flooded roads have dried-up and we would ideally like to have the park entrance gate open by Memorial Day Weekend (weekends and holidays only), however a few things need to happen first.

  • The flooded road below Yogurt Canyon has left some massive potholes in the road that would damage many vehicles. So we need to get those fixed as well as remove the mud/dirt that has accumulated.  In order to do this we need our district heavy equipment operator to come fix this, unfortunately he also has projects that need to be done at other parks.
  • The mud/dirt needs to be removed from the North/South section of the road that was flooded.
  • Some maintenance is needed in the Monument Mesa lower parking lot horse trailer area and drainage areas.
  • Repair construction fence on top of Monument Mesa and weed around existing picnic tables.
Thank you for your patience, stay tuned for more updates.
