Decisions made by coastal communities can have profound, long-term consequences for estuarine and coastal environments. Elected officials, land use planners, regulatory personnel, coastal managers, and recreational users are key decision-makers who often are in need of access to relevant science-based information, training, or available technology to make informed decisions affecting the watershed and coast. With significant development pressures on coastal communities on both sides of the U.S./Mexico border and the resulting impacts to coastal resources, it is imperative that these decision-makers have sound information on which to base often delicate decisions. The Coastal Training Program (CTP) offers professional training and technical assistance to coastal decision-makers in the bioregion, from Point Conception, north of Santa Barbara, to San Quintín on the Baja California Coast, some 190 miles south of the border.

“Planning for Climate Change” training workshop developed for coastal planners
As one of the last intact southern California coastal wetlands, the Reserve serves as a model and case study for wetland mitigation and coastal resilience to climate change. Supported by CTP, coastal decision-makers in San Diego County are poised to be environmental leaders for issues in coastal planning, conservation, and restoration.
